This Saturday May 10th at 2pm. Anna Passakas of the artist collective Blue Republic will discuss her practice at Committee Artist Books (247 Main St. at Cordova)
The Toronto/Krakow-based artist collective Blue Republic (Anna Passakas and Radoslaw Kudlinski) have lived,
trained and taught in Poland, the United Kingdom and Canada. Their practice
primarily consists of trans-media and site-specific installations, public
interventions, as well as performance and participatory projects. Their work is
concerned with discourses around globalization, contemporary experience, and
disruption of the binary that divides art from a broader social space. To this
end, Blue Republic have engaged in a series of international anti-poverty educational
and activist initiatives including recent projects in Brazil's favelas and
Ontario's correctional system.
Their international exhibition highlights include: 2013-14 Biennale of Urbanism and Architecture
(Shenzhen/Hong Kong); DAAD Gallery (Berlin, Germany); Ludwig Forum for
International Art (Aachen, Germany); CCA Ujazdowski Castle (Warsaw, Poland);
Galleria D’Arte Moderna (Bologna (Officina America), Italy); Galerie Julio
Gonzales (Paris, France); Cultural Services Co-op (Siem Riep, Cambodia);
Curitiba (Brazil). Exhibitions within Canada include: Galerie René Blouin (QC),
Darling Foundry (QC), Oakville Galleries (ON), Art Gallery of Sudbury (ON),
MacLaren Art Centre (ON), and the Doris McCarthy Gallery at the University of
Toronto Scarborough Campus.
